Eurojust Annual Meeting on Counter-Terrorism

On 22 and 23 November 2023, the Eurojust Annual Meeting on Counter-Terrorism gathered national correspondents for Eurojust for terrorism matters, specialised prosecutors from both EU Member States and third countries, as well as representatives from EU institutions and international organisations.

The event was opened by the President of Eurojust, Mr Ladislav Hamran, and Mr Baudoin Thouvenot, National Member for France and Chair of the Eurojust Counter-Terrorism Team. Representatives of the Office of the EU Counter-Terrorism Coordinator and the European Commission also presented relevant developments in fighting terrorism at EU level. The recent amendments to the Eurojust Regulation concerning digital information exchange in terrorism cases and the strengthening of the European Judicial Counter-Terrorism Register were a key topic discussed during the meeting.

This year, a specific focus was placed on victims’ rights. In that context, participants exchanged views and best practices on a range of terrorism related issues, including on mass trials such as those of the November 2015 terrorist attack in Paris and Saint-Denis and the March 2016 terrorist attack in Brussels. The participants also discussed tools to address the dissemination of terrorist content online and shared experience from dealing with complex terrorism investigations and prosecutions.
